AutoSum Keyboard Alternative in Excel

By Laura Noble

Clicking the AutoSum icon in a blank cell below or to the right of a column or row of numbers  will insert a sum function. In sample below the formula =Sum(D3:D9) would be inserted in the active cell.

An alternative to using the icon is pressing Alt + = (equals) in the blank cell and then pressing Enter key to accept the formula.

Using the AutoSum icon or the Alt + = shortcut provide the same results, but for those that like to keep their fingers on the keyboard Alt + = is very handy.
